Children of Light

Children of Light

Isaiah 9:2–7

By Kasey Cooper
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone… For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder…
– Isaiah 9:2, 6a

Those of us who have come to know the light of Christ in our lives have once known what it was like to live in darkness. Whether you were five or ninety-five years old, take yourself back to the moment that God’s light first shone into your heart. That moment that we first accept Christ as our Savior changes the entire course for our eternity. We were once without hope and now we are filled with Hope Himself.

We must be careful that we do not take this hope for granted. In the day- to- day busyness that is life, we can get so caught up with what needs to get done, that we may forget the life- changing power of the hope of the gospel in our lives and what it can do in the lives of others. Meditating on and remembering the hope that God has given us in His Son gives us motivation to live our lives in such a way that brings the hope of the gospel to others. We must never be selfish or greedy with the gospel, but be ready with generous hearts.

Let us remember today that our Hope was born in a manger in Bethlehem, that He grew in knowledge and wisdom and that He was born with the government on His shoulders. “He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”.

Lord, let us share with others the light of hope that Christ has brought to us.
Amen
